SOUTH KWOBRUP SCHOOL

In 1916 there was no school in the area and Mrs. Gray was teaching Holmes' children at Mr. Reeves place one mile from Holmes.

Robert Hills started correspondence with the Education Department for a school and was later pursued by A. Holmes. Finally the school opened on 9th September 1918 with a building provided by the parents. It was 12ft x 15ft weatherboard with a verandah on one side and a 100 gallon tank. It was located at Mr. Reeve's place, one mile from the Holmes. The first teacher, Evelyn Young to board with the Hills family for one pound ($2.00) per week.

 

 

Children who attended at this time were:
Marjorie HILLS, Roy HINKLEY, Arthur HOLMES, Clara HOLMES, Louis HOLMES, Kathleen McDONALD, Mabel McDONALD, Vincent McDONALD, Phyllis SLATER

On the 18th July 1919 the following children were added:
Arthur WRAY, Ethel WRAY, Ruth WRAY, Ivy WRAY

On 16th & 17th April there was no school because of heavy rain.

The school closed on 14th July 1921 due to low attendance. Another South Kwobrup school to the west of the Wood's property but nothing came of it.
